Martin Douglas Harvey is related to The Ancestor Detector. He is my 3rd cousin 4x removed (through the Hargrove family.)
Blog no. 13
Martin Douglas “Doug” Harvey was born on December 27, 1922, in Marshall County, TN to William Humphrey Harvey and Martha Susan “Susie” Ragan. He was one of 7 children.
On January 26, 1944, Doug enlisted into the United States Navy for WWII and was placed on the USS Rocky Moutain. His service number was 865-43-51. Sometime after Doug had returned from the war, he established his own business called the Harvey Machine Company. The company made pen and pencil machines.
In the early 1950’s, Doug married Inez Jane Waldron. They had 4 children whose names are Stephen Douglas Harvey, Jeffrey Harvey, Edmund Harvey, and Kathey (Harvey) Caruthers.
Later in the 1950’s, Doug owned a large amount of acreage on both sides of Highway 31 in Spring Hill, TN. He used his land for cattle farming and later a portion of his land was turned into a park in Spring Hill, TN. The park is still there on Highway 31 with the name of Harvey Park.
Sadly, on September 8, 2006, in Nashville, TN, Doug died. He was buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Nashville, TN. Doug has a plaque that stands near the flagpole at the entrance of Harvey Park, which gives his life story like what is written here.
