Sarah Roxie Foster Kelley was born on May 25, 1939, in Michigan to Jesse Paul Foster and Lavinia Robertson Hill. She grew up in Nashville, Davidson County, TN where she went to school at Cohn High School. Sarah later went to George Peabody College.
Sarah loved and enjoyed genealogy, especially researching her 4th great-grandfather, General James Randolph Robertson. She wrote many books about him. One of her books, Children of Nashville, is about General James Randolph Robertson’s descendants, like her.
Sarah married Ernest Starnes Kelley, Sr. They had one child, Ernest Starnes Kelley, Jr. Sarah and Ernest lived at 567 Whispering Hills Drive in Nashville, TN most of their life together.
Sarah, on June 1, 1971, created the General James Robertson Descendants and Kin Association. The association was committed to preserving the Robertson family records, especially James Robertson’s family.
Sadly, on July 16, 2002, in Nashville, TN, Sarah died of cancer. She was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, in Nashville, TN. When she died, she donated a large amount of her research materials to the Nashville, TN library.
