Pvt. Warren Dale Dickson was born in 1921, in TN, to Joe Turner Dickson and Effie Zulena Stewart. He had 7 siblings, and their names were Robert Turner Dickson, Anna Louise (Dickson) Jett, Nellie Vernon (Dickson) Jett, Tec5 Charlie Jefferson Dickson, Helen Elizabeth Dickson, Pfc. Gladney Owen Dickson, Christine Josephine (Dickson) Green, and Mary M. Dickson. The Dickson Family lived on Nolensville Road in the Woodbine Community of Nashville, TN.
On October 19, 1941, at Fort Oglethorpe, GA, Warren enlisted into the army at the age of 19 to fight in World War II. After over a year in service, in early November of 1942, Warren’s infantry (the 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division) was part of the allied invasion of French Morocco at Port Lyautey during Operation Torch. On the first day of the battle, November 8, 1942, Warren was injured by shrapnel and died that same day. He was buried at the North Africa American Cemetery and Memorial in Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia.
For his sacrifice, his family was given the Purple Heart Award in his honor.
