Blog no. 32

Ananias Buford was born on April 16, 1912, in Spring Hill, Maury County, Tennessee, to Ananias Buford and Mollie May Glenn. He had four siblings. Their names were Ruby (Buford) Oden, Bruce Raymond Buford, Saintclair Buford, and Emma Jean (Buford) Poyntor Morton McCord.

On April 4, 1931, in Williamson County, TN, Ananias married Vernie Grigsby. They had 10 children and their names were Vivian Louise (Buford) Ridley, Ananias Buford Jr., Mollie Lee Buford, Barbara Buford, Charles C. Buford, Ray Norman Buford, Naomi (Buford) Bailey, Joseph Buford, Ruth Buford, and Hildred Buford.

Ananias and his large family lived off of Duplex Road, in Spring Hill, TN, on a road now named Buford Lane. Buford Lane is still a road and named after Ananias and his family. His son, Charles, was the first African American vice mayor and alderman of the city of Spring Hill, TN.

Sadly, on January 26, 1994, at the Saint Thomas Hospital, in Nashville, TN, Ananias died. He was buried in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens cemetery, in Columbia, Maury County, TN. According to everyone I have met that knew Ananias, he was a very kind man, along with his wife, Vernie.
