Effie LeDora Dalton was born on January 10, 1936, in Spring Hill, TN, to Bruce Duncan Dalton and Annie L. Harris. She had one brother. His name was Bruce Edward “Buddy” Dalton. Her father, and other family members, ran a store on Depot Street in Spring Hill, TN called Dalton Brothers General Store.
When Effie was in high school at the Spring Hill High School, one of her classmates were Helen Dark, a loved librarian of the Spring Hill Public Library. Effie and Helen were close friends.
On November 20, 1959, in Maury County, TN, Effie married Paul Conrad Heiss. They had three children, and their names were Paul Conrad “Chip” Heiss Jr., Bruce Bernhardt “Bernie” Heiss, and Laura (Heiss) Hardison.
In the late 1990’s, Effie was a chairperson of the board of the Spring Hill Public Library along with Betty Boyd, Charles Buford, R.M. McKinley, Ann Russell, Bruce Scotten, and Ruth Wells. Effie also was a big part of the making of Spring Hill Everybody Has a Story book. She has a story written on page 69. In her story, she talks about her family, Ed and Sally “Jodie” Williams, milking cows, and even hog killing, a communal event of meat processing in Spring Hill, TN, years ago.
Sadly, on May 27, 2024, in Soddy Daisy, Hamilton County, TN, Effie died. She was buried at Spring Hill Memorial Park in her hometown of Spring Hill, TN.
