Blog no. 25

William Oliver “Stan” Stanfill was born on July 13, 1912, in Houston County, TN, to James Adam Stanfill and Eunice Eudora “Dora” Halliburton. He had many siblings.

Sometime around 1938, Stan married Marie M. Whiddon. They had one child, and his name was William Oliver “Jimmy” Stanfill Jr.. Stan later married Myrtle Elizabeth Booth.

On May 15, 1945, in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, during World War II, Stan enlisted into the Army. He only fought for 5 months until he was discharged due to a medical diagnosis of Gastroptosis and Visceroptosis on October 2, 1945, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Stan was the owner and operator of the Stan’s Restaurant/Truck Stop that once stood next to the Laundromat and Barber Shop on Main Street in Spring Hill, TN. He and Myrtle opened the restaurant and truck stop to people on August 8, 1947. It’s still a restaurant today, just in a different building and place in Columbia, Maury County, TN. Stan also, years later went on to become the mayor of Spring Hill, TN.

Sadly, on April 17, 1973, in Spring Hill, TN, Stan died. He was buried at the Polk Memorial Gardens cemetery. I have had the privilege to meet Stan’s grandson, Bill Stanfill, who owns Middle Tennessee Paintball with his wife, my distant cousin, Janice.
