Calvert Clyde “Clyde” Farmer was born on October 22, 1936, in Elmwood, Smith County, TN, to Reggie Clyde “Bill” Farmer and Allie Vianer Russell. He had two siblings, and their names were Robbie Claudine (Farmer) Vanderpool and Harry Page Farmer.

After having enlisted in the army for some time, on May 30, 1959, Clyde married Lois Ann Grandstaff. They had three children: Jay Farmer, Jon Farmer, Robbie (Farmer) Luzzo, and an adopted son, William Chadwick Bailey.

Clyde was a teacher of Agriculture at the Spring Hill High School in Spring Hill, TN for over 30 years and retired as the principal in 1991. Not only was he a teacher and principal, he was the Basketball Coach and Assistant Principal of the school, City Alderman, and Municipal Judge of Spring Hill, TN. He was also a Fireman for the Spring Hill Fire Department for 41 years and became the Fire Chief for 24 of the years.

On November 18, 2019, the Board of Mayor and Alderman of Spring Hill, TN voted and had the bridge that connects the Crossings of Spring Hill, TN to Highway 31 named Clyde Farmer Crossing. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on December 6, 2019.

Sadly, on September 26, 2022, in Spring Hill, TN, Clyde died. He was buried at the Spring Hill Memorial Park cemetery after the Fire Department drove him over his bridge one last time after his funeral. He is remembered by everybody that was in his class and everybody who he knew because of his work for the city of Spring Hill, TN.
