Mattie Laura Harris was born on March 13, 1920, in Spring Hill, TN to McDonald “Don” Harris and Sophia Jane Holland. She had 4 siblings. Their names were: Merle, James, Edward, and Christine. Mattie’s father, Don, was a mail carrier for Spring Hill, TN for many years.

Mattie and her family lived in a house at 5321 Main Street in Spring Hill, TN, which still stands and is now a coffee shop called The Fainting Goat Coffee Co.Mattie was a school teacher at the Spring Hill High School in Spring Hill, TN for 34 years after she graduated in 1938. Many people still remember Mattie being their teacher when they were in school.

While never being married, Mattie had many friends that she had known practically forever. She was part of the Spring Hill Public Library with people who had lived in Spring Hill, TN all their lives. Many of the people at the library during Mattie’s time there had lived near or down the street from where she had lived on Main Street.

Sadly, on November 10, 2008, in Soddy Daisy, TN, Mattie Laura Harris died at the age of 88. She was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Spring Hill, TN. Mattie was a very kind and caring lady. She is another person I wish I could have met when she was alive.
