Helen Dark is related to The Ancestor Detector a few different ways. She is my 3rd Cousin 4x removed (through the Green family,) 4th Cousin 4x removed (through the Lavender family,) and her uncle married my 3rd great-grandaunt (through the Cozart family.)
Blog no. 6 (Revised 04/15/23)
Frances Helen “Helen” Dark was born on October 8, 1936, in Maury County, TN, to William Baxter “Bill” Dark and Sarah Pauline Boatright. She had two brothers and their names were Ronald Terry Dark and Donald Jerry Dark.
While never being married, Helen did a lot for the city of Spring Hill, TN. She worked for Tom Kinnard’s Drugstore on Main Street, the Spring Hill Feed & Seed, and from 1995-2005, Helen was the director of the Spring Hill Public Library. Many people remember her from her time at the library and have very fond memories of her. One of the more known things Helen did when she was at the library was preserve the history of Spring Hill, TN. She collected relics of old Spring Hill, documents of Spring Hill’s past, and especially Genealogy books. Helen even helped put together what I would say is the best Spring Hill, TN history book that exists, Spring Hill Everybody Has a Story.
In 1995, after she started her job at the Spring Hill Public Library, Helen was in a commercial for the Saturn Car Company. The commercial was filmed at one of the now old locations of the library, 5309 Main Street, where Tom Kinnard’s Drugstore was located sometime before. The 30 second commercial can still be viewed online. (Here is a link to the commercial on youtube.)
Sadly, on December 17, 2017, in Tennessee, Helen died. She was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery. It is certain that her memory will never be forgotten by the Spring Hill Public Library and the people who knew her.
