Tennessee Walking Horse, Haynes Peacock (sometimes referred to as a “Strutting Horse”) was foaled in 1928 in Bedford County and bred by Jack Minnette.
Jack Minnette rode him in the New Hermon Horse Show and won a sack of flour in the spring of 1939. After the horse show, T. P. Shelton bought Haynes Peacock and put him in the New Smyrna show as “Peacock”. Haynes Peacock was known as “Old Dan” when T. P. Shelton bought him. Later, Col. Jack Haynes fell in love with Haynes Peacock and bought him, soon after to win the Walking Horse Horse stake at Madison Square Garden in New York.
By the time the year 1940 came along, Haynes Peacock had won numerous championships for his owner, one being the National Celebration’s World Championship. In the next year, 1941, he did the exact same thing for his owner.
On September 20th, 1941, Haynes Haven was retired from competition at the State Fair in Nashville. In 1944, Haynes Peacock died. He was buried on the Haynes Haven farm property, in Spring Hill, TN, where he had lived during his many championships.
