The Cumberland Compact is a document like the Declaration of Independence. On May 13, 1780, 248 people of Fort Nashborough in Nashville, TN, signed the compact creating their own government giving them independence from North Carolina. It also told whose land was whose in Fort Nashborough. The compact was written by Colonel Richard Henderson, who also helped with the founding of Boonesborough, Kentucky.
Some of the people who signed the Cumberland Compact include General James Robertson, Colonel Richard Henderson, Captain Mark Robertson, Captain John Donelson, Colonel Samuel Barton, Colonel John Montgomery, Etc.
